Introduction in English or Other Language (written by tutor , not translated by Google)

Unlike some education students who are unsure of the specialty they wish to pursue when entering college or university, my goal has always been to become an educator. My major is Bachelor of Education (Liberal Studies) in Hong Kong Institute of Education. Reflecting on my educational experience, I appreciate the immeasurable impact that Liberal Studies makes on my life. As it teaches me how to be a role model that cultivates in young people, open minds, the knowledge and ability to look at the world critically, and the belief in ones capacity to chase their interests and make life meaningful. With the goal in mind, I am seeking for a position of Mandarin tutor here. Though I am not a Chinese language major student, I have always been interested in Chinese and fond of teaching Chinese. During my exchange period in the USA, I was invited to become a member of Bridgewater Research Team, interviewing at different Confucius Institute in New England and teaching Chinese at Chinese heritage school. Therefore, I not only realized more about teaching Chinese as a foreign language, such as the difficulties for foreigners to learn Chinese and some practical teaching Chinese experience, but also got an outstanding award by both Bridgewater State University and UMass Boston Confucius Institute because of my project named “Establishing the first Confucius Chinese School in Boston”. Besides overseas teaching experience, I taught local child Mandarin with individual needs. What’s more, my Putonghua demonstration teaching was always the best during Dr. Kwok’s Putonghua classroom course and I participated in Hong Kong inter-varsity Mandarin Debate Competition as HKIEd lead player representative. But the decisive point for me to choose this field of study was at last semester, accidentally, when I got a practice teaching opportunity at Sir Ellis Kadoorie School (West Kowloon), where over 70% students are South Asian ethnic minorities. At first, I just taught Liberal Studies in English normally but after our relationship got closer, I found myself start teaching Chinese to my students after-class unconsciously. And one Nepal student even regarded my “private Chinese lesson” was better than my Liberal Studies lesson because I not only taught them this language but also integrated culture elements into it. With my students’ approval, I made up my mind to become a Chinese teacher, letting these non-Chinese students realize the Chinese aesthetic feeling.
